If you ask me if I like “The Notebook” the movie I have to say yes! If you have a problem with that or think it’s funny… I dare you not to like it! Needless to say I think this movie is going to be the same… This might have to be a SMC in 2012!

What an amazing Thanksgiving I had today… So thankful!

So today started off with a run in the hills of northern California. I ran/ walked 2.2 miles and all before breakfast and it really felt great to be running out in the fresh air and down a tree lined road with farm land on both sides of me.

The first strange encounter of the day was a group of wild turkeys that really wanted nothing to do with me as I ran by and definitely did not want a photo. When I returned after my run I was greeted with great conversation and a wonderful home cooked breakfast! The afternoon was spent at a new Safeway ( open only 2 weeks) and wonderful company! when we came back from the new Safeway we helped clean a house to get it move in ready and prepared for a great feast! After we had finished with the cleaning some of us finished putting on cabinet doors, some showered, some slept, and I went to check out the ostrich that I had heard so much about… with a quick walk across the yard I was greeted by what I thought were 3 but turned out to be around 9 ostriches. Only two were brave enough to really say hello and if you have never seen one up close let me be the first to tell you that those birds are huge! I named the female Dolores and the male Dougie!  Not sure on the female name but Dougie was named due to his dancing/mating moves that he was doing and that song was stuck in my head!

After I left Dougie & Dolores it was time to get ready for the Thanksgiving feast and for people to start arriving. I’m always so happy to meet new people and and so thankful for each new person that comes into my life! it was a wonderful group and the meal went off without a hitch. The highlights of the meal include amazing mashed potatoes, orange surprise, wonderful turkey, and a ham that was to die for! Let’s also not forget the green bean casserole!!!!!! All amazing and cleaned my plate!

I have to say that sitting around a table of people that you just met for a holiday can be a scary place and very awkward however I felt so at home and a part of the family that it was truly a great meal and I had a wonderful time!

After dinner is where the fun really started… so after the meal we gathered to watch old home movies and relax for a bit. Then it became game night and I have to say that we played 2 games that I have never played before… the first was a version of Apples to Apples and the next was a great game which we ended the night with called “Settlers of Catan”! this game was explained to me as an educated version of risk… after lot’s of instructions we got into playing it and I have to say that if you are ever at a loss with 4-6 people around this is a must play. When the end of the game came not only was I ready to play again but I was crying laughing due to the commentary that was said… I still can’t say the sentence that I was trying to get out without laughing so hard so maybe tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow we have another round of gameplay tomorrow night and I can’t wait!

Over all it was an amazing holiday and I am thankful for not only my family and friends but, I am also thankful for new friends and the family that I got to spend this Thanksgiving with. Tomorrow I’ll start the day much in the same fashion that I did today and helping new friends move in to there new place and finish the day with maybe some more mulled wine and Catan!

This holiday reminded me of the great movie “Son in Law”… now it is minus the arranged marriage and fake engagement but, I really was planning on a thanksgiving alone, and I know that might sound sad but to be honest I am thankful everyday and don’t really see it as a special day. Don’t get me wrong I love the amazing food and seeing friends and family but to be honest if you make that a priority you could do everyday of your life… back to “Son in Law”… so I was going to spend it getting some work done and going out to eat. With a twist of fate and an amazing person I was invited to a ranch in Northern California and was so happy that I said yes!

So now I am off to bed with a full stomach and a huge heart of thanks for the wonderful day that I had today! I will be here until Sunday sometime and can’t wait to see what the rest of the weekend brings!!!!

Thank you to all who made today amazing and I hope everyone had an amazing day! A special thanks to S.C. for everything!!!!
