Ok I know this is odd but this morning I woke up and really wanted to eat Bangers & Mash like I did 90% of the dinners in Ireland. I just was back home and spoke with my dad about how hard it is to find good bangers (sausages) to which he agreed. Now back in So. Cal. I am happy to say that the mystery is solved.

After having brunch today I noticed that a bunch of tents down one of the side streets in Manhattan Beach and realized that it was Tuesday and today is the Farmers Market. I have never been before and decided to walk through to see what they had to offer… After looking through a great selection of local goods I spotted a local butcher and knew I had to ask. I am so glad that I did because even though they were not out he dug in the back cooler and pulled out a package of Bangers!!!! I will let you know how everything turns out but so far so good! Just to let you know if you are ever looking for a great selection of meat and sausages check out Schreiner’s Fine Sausages www.schreinersfinesausages.com to see what they have! Now if I could only find Mushy Peas…

So last weekend I was told about a saying that you should say on the first of each month. When you wake up on the first of the month the first words out of your mouth should be “rabbit rabbit” or “white” rabbit”. This is according to english tradition and thanks to my father this is very true. He was told by his mom from a young age that if you say this you will have luck for the rest of the month… thanks for waiting to tell me about it until i ask but at least I am saying it now!

So far it has really worked… or it is me making my own luck. I would like to think that it is a cocktail of the two! Here is a bit more on the topic and remember on the 1st of July to say Rabbit Rabbit! Good Luck!

From Wikipedia:

“Rabbit rabbit” is a common British superstition. The most common modern version states that a person should say “rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit”, “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit”, “rabbit, rabbit” or simply “white rabbits” upon waking on the first day of each new month, and on doing so will receive good luck for the duration of that month. In the United States, the tradition is especially common in NantucketCape Cod and Natick,Massachusetts. The exact origin of the superstition is unknown, though it has appeared in print at least as early as 1922:

“Why,” the man in the brown hat laughed at him, “I thought everybody knew ’Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.’ If you say ‘Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit’—three times, just like that—first thing in the morning on the first of the month, even before you say your prayers, you’ll get a present before the end of the month.”[1]

However, some reports place its origins even earlier, into the 1800s. Today it has spread to most of the English-speaking countries of the world, although, like all folklore, determining its exact area of distribution is difficult. This superstition is related to the broader belief in the rabbit or hare being a “lucky” animal, as exhibited in the practice of carrying a rabbit’s foot for luck. Some have also believed it represents jumping into the future and moving ahead with life and happiness.
